1993 Chevy, 454 Rebuild

Okay, so I have a 1993 Chevy Cheyenne 3500. Its 4wd, has a 7.4L 454 in it. The engine is blown and I have 1 year to rebuild it. I'm looking for the max horsepower possible for mudding, dragracing, but I also need it street legal? I need performance parts ideas, as I have never rebuilt an engine before. I will have roughly five-ten thousand dollars I can spend on it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Rebuild it mostly stock, and drive it. Save the rest of the money for other improvements.

Is it worth it to oversize the cams, bore it over .7 and shave the heads? I was also thinking maybe cold air intake as well as dual quad carbs and a methanol injection kit, good idea or no?

Stock TBI heads = the worst flowing factory heads GM ever produced.

Getting em worked over doesn't solve much on them. Do new heads.

Even if you dump a ton of money into the motor, your limiting factor is fuel...

A 454 Throttle body & injectors can't even support 500HP on a 350, let alone a 454...

So what parts could I add that give the most power? That wouldn't be limited to the fuel injection? I intend on drag racing, as well as driving this truck for fun, so mpg isn't a concern.

No, I'd like to keep the 454, I'm considering a diesel swap with my 94' gmc 2500 though. However not for a few years. I'm just trying to figure out what would give the most power, as well as being insanely fun to drive.

Ls swap it then. Expensive to make these 454s fast and reliable
