1992 Chevy k1500 tranny issue?

So, last week I put a used tranny (700R4) into a 1992 chev pickup. All fluids are filled, no leaks. First time we started it up it sounded like the flywheel was grinding on the bellhousing (it is not). So there is a very loud and mechanical grinding sound and I'm not sure what the problem is. Tranny drives fine, but there is this noise and I am out of ideas on what it could be. Tranny was pulled from a daily driven running vehicle 2 weeks prior to install.

4 wheel drive as well. T-case oil full.

Is the starter disengaged?

It stops as soon as the truck is shut off
