It was such a pain in the butt but it got done after checking so many things, I was relieved that it was something simple and easy to do but I felt stupid for not checking spark more in detail sooner. Could have saved a lot more time on this but hey it’s more experience on the belt and if it...
ALRIGHT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!
Ive finally found the issue! It was the cap and rotor all along and I found out because the spark plugs were firing but something was off about them. There was spark but it was very rapid and it was arcing but after replacing the cap and rotor and adjusting the cam...
Got it I’ll take a look at those, I actually bought a distributor before taking the old one out and ended up returning it because the old one looked fine. Might just the buy the distributor back.
Alright guys so I managed to take off the timing cover and the timing for the engine is GOOD everything lines up and the timing chain didnt skip. Man this truck is wearing me out, I think ive narrowed everything down to the fuel pump but then again if it was a fuel issue starter fluids WOULD...
*** UPDATE ***
I’ve done a compression test and everything seems to be good at about 170-185 psi range, I’ve also tested the injectors to see if they are receiving pulse from the ECM with a noid test light kit and all of the injectors seem to be receiving pulse.
What I’m currently doing is...
No it doesn’t I’ve tried fuel and starter fluids but nothing seems to work, it backfires and sometimes seems like it will start but it doesn’t. I’ve also got my charger plugged in
Ive got a question for you folks. How would I test the injectors to see if the ECM is sending a signal? I know there are kits out there that use noid lights but where exactly would they go? (My truck runs spider injectors)
As for using a whole engine hoist that I dont have to lift up a bed, it seems like a good idea if say you wanted to remove rust and paint the frame but for the purpose of swapping a fuel pump I think id much rather prop it up with a 2x4 and get the job done that way.
Yeah sorry im a bit of a newbie when it comes to anything related to that stuff but no I havent done a compression test yet, I will do one this afternoon and let you know how it goes. I have a huge feeling that the timing chain may have jumped since it backfired with fluids. The first time I...
I will try to prime the system to see if I can get it to start even just for a little bit but even if the fuel pump IS the problem dont you think the starter fluids would have worked? I sprayed some in and thats when it all backfired and smoke came out of the intake.
I only checked one of the plugs, ill check the rest today and let you guys know if they are good or bad, as far as the rotor yes it does spin. Ill take a look at that tool I think autozone or oreillys might rent it out, thanks for the info.
470K WOW thats alot haha, ive done some research and found that people that were driving and their car died out of nowhere had issues with their crank sensor. Ill keep you posted I have plans on working on this thing all weekend and next week.
The rotor had a bit of play when I took the cap off. Even if the pressure is a bit low it still holds at a reasonable number, you would think the engine would ATLEAST run poorly instead of not running at all.
