    Cap and rotor contacts were in very bad condition. Started instantly after cap& rotor change. Rearmost cap attaching screw didn't tighten to the distributor, so I replaced it with a small bolt + 2 nuts.

    7.8 seconds for a Suburban with those mods sounds unbelievable. Not saying I don't believe you. :) That's pretty much the same as my LT1 Caprice stw. I thought my Tahoe was doing OK at 10 seconds (4-door, 4x4, L31, 265/75R16, 3.73:1, under 120k, some tuning, idles great).

    Thanks a lot for that information, it's very good to know! It's probably the same thing causing this. I saw a lot of retard at first gear also at 28 degrees. However going from about 23 to 17.5 didn't change anything; some KR at 2nd gear, never at 1st. Did your transmission act up in any way...

    Thanks! You're right, I better get the clunk away before proceeding. If there's not any clear visible fault in the pinion, maybe changing the setup a little will help. Backlash is about .007", so it's close to the low limit for 5-cut gears.
