Curious to know if anyone with speaker upgrades whether 2-way or 3-way speakers are noticeably different in sound quality.

It's a 4x6 speaker in a truck, not going to matter. Just get a speaker with the highest sensitivity possible. Infinity plate speakers are a good choice, what I'm running.

Pretty much anything you put in will sound better than the oe garbage.
I personally has 2 way Clarion plates back in the day, they sounded great with 2-12's.
You are never going to get anything remotely resembling bass with little 4x6's, so may as well go for quality.

I put Kicker CS Series coaxial in my 1993, did the 4" in the dash and 4X6" in the rear panels. These are a great price and come with free mounting plate and wire harness adapters if you order them through Crutchfield. I also added a five channel amplifier and 2 12" Kicker Subs in slim boxes in the rear. Overall the stereo sounds great!
