Hey all. I have a buddy of mine doing some maintenance to my truck before landscaping season starts. He asked me to run out and buy some fluid. I have a 97 k1500 with a 5.0. It's a short bed. I need to know what fluid I need for the front and rear diff, as well as the transfer case. Advice from the experts here would be very helpful. Thank you.

Front and rear diffs are GL5 rated 80W-90 with no friction modifiers. Transfer case is Dexron 3 if you don't have the "Auto" button for the 4WD, GM AutoTrak 2 if you do.

What fluid for if you have the electronic shifter? Electronic shift is what you mean by auto right?

Same as your Automatic transmission fluid.

In post #5 your quote indicated to me you were talking about the transfer case. But yes, 80-90 Gear Lube for differentials. Best to note what truck you have. Is it a C or K truck?

Yes, your right, got mixed on my comment threads.

K1500 4x4... attached is a RPO code sheet with all the options.

Regarding the owners manual picture, I have checked that, and just wanting to verify, etc... I can't remember what it was for, but I was watching a youtube video fluid change and they said that 'xyz' fluid no longer made so it is now 'abc' fluid. So owners manual info was out of date.

Change ALL of your fluids if you don’t know maintenance history. Coolant, brake fluid, and a transmission fluid exchange. Like this:
