An old, disposable bath towel works well. Wash it, drain as best you can, tilt it up so all the water pools in one end, and soak it up with a towel, as well as whatever drops you can reach. Make sure all the loose rust, dirt, and debris are cleaned from the tank. If you are worried about moisture after this, some HEET in the tank will bond with whatever is left and allow it to be burned in the engine.
Thanks! Out of all the trucks I’ve had, I’ve never done this in-tank fuel pump! I’ve never washed out a tank either.., so I appreciate your input.

I've got a Denso pump that I got a deal on from Advance Auto through thier website. They're often expensive, Though. It replaced a dealer purchased AC Delco, that after it finally died, I realized was also the source of my hard starting, not my OEM injectors.

The Denso is quiet, and came with the updated pigtail to splice into the original wiring harness..... flat four instead of square four connector.

I’ll check out that Denso. I’ve got another question for you. Do you have a 454 in a 90s Chevy truck or Tahoe?

Seems that the GM MU1745 is compliant with Tier 1 California emissions.

I have a Suburban so the MU1745 won't work. I need the MU1725 which doesn't list CA emissions and there isn't a CA alternative for GM Genuine. Pretty much Bosch, Delphi, or AC Delco; I'm probably going Delphi as its cheaper to get here by Friday so I can work on it over the weekend.

Missed the Suburban part, obviously. Delphi is a fine choice.

Delphi is in. Gauge is rock solid at 49psig with the vacuum line on. Battery was a bit weak to get a solid prime pressure and I'm still fighting other issues to report further.

Notes on install:
Getting the lines off of the old pump was an exercise in patience as I had to use two small straight blade screwdrivers to work the clips out and past the retainer collar to get them off
New connector wires, at least on the Suburban, are perfect to put the splice on top of the rear cross member so just doing a straight clip and splice with them all at the same length is fine, would still suggest staggering them so the heatshrink buttsplices don't bunch up in the loom.
The fuel lines are maddeningly the perfect length to break the connectors off if the tank shifts during install as if you jack it up to a reasonable clearance to the frame to work on them, they just reach so if something shifts you snap a fitting off... yes, I had to buy two pump modules...
There is enough room if you have either a 8in+ length 1/4 drive socket or a long screwdriver to put the fill line hose back on both ends with the tank in place. Expect lots of dirt in the face doing it though.
