Was wondering if someone could tell me how to check the speedometer stepper motor.

    Fried Fuse Box

Somehow I thought I could just take the wires from the back of the bad fuse box and reattach them to a new box. Since this doesn't have a release on the back of the box to unplug all of the wires, how do you go about reattaching the wires on the other end of the harness?

    Fried Fuse Box

I would be interested in the fuse box/harness.

    Fried Fuse Box

I have an '89 Silverado with a 5.7L automatic. I was looking at the fuse box under the dash on the drivers side for a speedometer related issue when I noticed the middle of the fuse block was melted. It was melted when I bought the truck. It looks like someone may have installed a CB radio at...

    No Power To VSS

Desert Old Guy I want to thank you for taking the time to post the link to all of that information. Much appreciated!

    No Power To VSS

Should I look for a schematic to locate the DRAC/VSSB on the cluster and also, how could I test it to see if it is bad?

    No Power To VSS

Thanks for the info. I'll keep troubleshooting until I find a solution.

    No Power To VSS

I have a 1989 Silverado 5.7 350, automatic. Speedometer stopped working. Replaced speed sensor. Speedometer still didn't work. With engine running, I checked for power at connector that plugs into the sensor. Not sure what voltage should be but my voltmeter showed zero volts. Its a purple/white...

Strange Noise Where There Shouldn't Be One

Both replacements had the same issue. The off brand as well as the ACDelco.

Strange Noise Where There Shouldn't Be One

Finally figured it out. On the sensor, there is a metal piece that is magnetized and collects any tiny bits of metal. That piece was sticking up just enough to hit the gear. I filed it down to be flush with the plastic housing and no more noise.

Strange Noise Where There Shouldn't Be One

I’ll try putting the old one back in. At first glance the old and new one look identical but maybe there is a very slight difference. Also I will look for any marks on the new one.

Strange Noise Where There Shouldn't Be One

I have a 1989 Silverado standard cab with a 5.7 350 automatic. The truck has always been quiet, (no weird noises). Recently my speedometer stopped working and after some research I replaced the vehicle speed sensor on the tale end of the transmission. The sensor can only go in one way as far as...

    Speedometer

Can a cracked odometer gear cause the speedometer to not work? 1989 Silverado, 2WD, automatic, 5.7 350. its the black gear on the left side of the odometer assembly.

    No Speedometer/Odometer

Back to square one. I noticed that when I replaced the vehicle speed sensor, I was getting a whining sound as I started moving. From the drivers seat it sounded like it was coming from the drivers side about half way back . I thought it was too much of a coincidence because I didn't hear the...

    No Speedometer/Odometer

Yes. The connection appears to be good. No corrosion.
