Hey...that'd be cool Steve. Keep in touch mate. We can arrange to meet up for a beer or something.

Keep in mind....sometimes with boost...you need to pull a little timing to negate KR. If you pull timing for that....and then for IAT's as well....that's where you start to get low on advance. As for pulling 'all' timing....they may be correct. You may only have 4deg advance at those temps...

You can always swap out the t/stat if need be....so it's no biggy. From memory I tried the 180 first. Your timing won't only get pulled via te IAT's. I haven't looked into mine for a while because I'm happy with how it's running at present (until summer but ONLY cooler air can fix that)...

The weather in CA is pretty much the same as here in Melbourne, Oz.....so I'd go with the 160. Without intercooling you'll want to keep the motor as cool as possible. Problem is....these motors perform best....and are designed to run hot but if yuo do run them hot, you'll have to keep timing...

No prob's. Oh....I've spent hours and hours tuning this thing....including playing with fuel dynamics to try and negate lean tip in on throttle stomp...which I have pretty much perfect now (infact....I was the reason for the fuel dynamics tables and .CAX files coming about in EFILive ;-) ). I...

I could understand the heatsoak train of thought....if it was there all the time....but the temps jump by atleast 40degC when I stomp on the pedal....and settle back down again when I get off it. I'm not trying to put a downer on your build...because it's 'awesome' but I think you'll be looking...

If an intercooler is out of teh question....you may want to look into water/methanol injection. You WILL need to cool the charge air somehow. Where do you live? Do you get high ambient temp's?

Guys....those sorts of IAT's are completely normal with non-intercooled whipples. I'm running the side mounted whipple on my 5.7. I'm running a marine intake with 45lb LS1 injectors...tuned by myself using EFILive and a 0411 PCM with Road Runner. If you datalog as you stomp on the throttle...

You'll NEED to get an intercooler on that thing. If you don't....you will lose an incredible amount of power (timing will be ZERO). During summer, I regularly see IAT's of over 100degC when ambient is 30. I'm running a 5.7...and I believe the 7.4's run alot hotter.

    Stock locker in 14-bolt

I got a 14bolt SF a while back and when I pulled the G80 out it had some damage to the little 'clock gears'. I'm in the process of installing a Trutrac in it. I have one in my 10bolt...which has never faulted.

    Problem with Starter...

I put the gear reduction in mine recently. I was surprised at just how much quicker it spins the motor over when starting. I paid $75.00 for mine from Evilbay. We don't have any Chevy's in wrecking yards here....so the nbs starter option doesn't exist for me.

    1997 k1500 transfer case

There's basically nothing inside the transfer cases. A few bearings, some gears and a big chain. Oh...and a couple of selector forks. Easy build though.
