looking for a stock replacement alt isn't really going to generate much in your search besides maybe a 110 amp. gonna have to look into a singer or a mechman or iraggi alternator. probably in the 300 amp range, its going to be expensive none the less.

Mechman, Iraggi or DC Power Inc are basically going to be your big three options for alternators. Something that will supply at least 200A at idle. As mentioned, it's going to be one of the most expensive parts of your setup.

EDIT - Also, ditch the regular joe battery. You want a nice AGM that has good rapid charging and discharging capabilities. I run Odyssey Extremes in my trucks and I strongly recommend them. A single PC-1500 Odyssey keeps up with my 2200W system in my red truck just fine. Stay away from Optima, they were bought by Johnson Controls a few years back and have gone downhill in quality. I killed two Optima yellow tops with my system in less than a year before I switched to Odyssey.

Not that i don't agree on the Optima thing, but i haven't had a issue in any of the 6 vehicle i have owned over the last 5 years and still have with optimas. I guess i am lucky. plus they look awesome ha.

df2x4 where do you get the odyssey batteries?

I buy the Odysseys locally as I have a dealer in town who stocks them, you can order directly from their website as well though.

And yeah, it's a shame about the Optimas. I used to swear by them. Johnson Controls moved them to a different factory in Mexico after they bought the Optima brand and failure reports have gone way up.

The Odysseys are actually a better battery anyway, though. About 300 more CCA and 20min more reserve time than the same size Optima if I remember correctly. Plus they have a four year free replacement warranty.

So I got the subs, amp, cap, and more wiring ordered this morning. My next is look for the alt and battery. The rating on the amp is 2250 stable at 1 ohm or 1150 stable at 2ohm. But I went with dvc 4ohm subs so 1 ohm it is. I went with the type r 1ws again bc I know they can handle the pound. I'll post up pics as soon as I get the equipment and the wood to start doing the box.

I know everyone is gonna bash on me for the amp I got but I let the reviews help me make my decision. I got the boss phantom 3000. I have the 1000 in my blazer and no troubles.

That Boss is going to run hot enough to scramble eggs at 1 ohm, just saying. That's what I meant by seeing if it was capable of operating there for extended periods. I'm sure it'll work, but for how long without overheating is the question. If you really want to use that junk I'd at least plan on some auxiliary cooling fans.

Also don't use a capacitor. That's what the new alt and battery are for. I've seen capacitors cause more problems than they solve in almost every instance, they're a terrible band-aid.

EDIT - Also just putting this out there, but I don't trust that RMS rating on the amp at all. I'd be curious to see what it actually puts out, but I'd bet $100 you'll never see 2K watts at 1 ohm. Boss, Audiobahn, Planet Audio etc are all terrible about over rating their stuff.

So I cancelled the order haha. I'm just gonna switch and go up to 2ohm load. And look for a better amp I guess. Still sticking with the type rs but switched to the 2ohm instead of 4ohm

Yeah like df2x4 said don't waste money on the capacitor, I had one for my car and I took it right back out. It doesn't help at all and it just is something to try and hide a big problem.

And you really will have to make sure the amp you choose doesn't have overheating problems. I have a 600W kicker amp ran to the door speakers in my extended cab and after about an hour or 2 of abuse when i go to touch it as he said "it's hot enough to scramble eggs" lol. the insulation behind those seats aren't good for keeping amps cool.

An amp i'd recommend looking into if your going to run those subs is this.. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pioneer-2400w-class-d-mono-amplifier-black/8819666.p?skuId=8819666 or similar to that. I have the smaller 1600W one for my subs and after 3 years its still running strong and never gets to hot.

Smart call! In my opinion there's not much point to super low-ohm setups these days unless you're planning on entering SPL competitions. Even then, most of the rules have been revised to eliminate people using "cheater amps." Back in the day was a different story. For instance, check this out. Here's a 90's Lanzar 50C. I own two of these bad boys.

These things put out a whopping 25Wx2 at a standard 4 ohm load. Not much there for a 3ft long behemoth, right? Well they're capable of being wired down to 400Wx2 at .25 (yes one quarter) ohm. Or bridged mono at 800x1, .5 ohm. That's under-rated as well. On a strong charging system they can produce over 1KW easy. Just an example of why people used to run low ohm setups.

If you want help picking anything out let me know, I've been building systems for a long time.
