OK, in a nutshell, the 454SS is my high schooler's truck. It has 125,000 original miles, stock exhaust manifolds, catalytic converter in for now, one pipe into a Cherry bomb muffler, and dual pipes coming out to the back. It sounds good, but not real loud. We want to raise the exhaust sound level (read as much louder!).

Picking an exhaust setup is difficult because everything you hear on Youtube or the manufacturer's sites all depends on the engine size and components.

So here is what we have to work with:

1- Stock exhaust manifolds, if we can help it- we don't want to put in headers at this time.

2- Catalytic converter can stay or go- our county does not require one.

3- We still want to have exhaust going out the back- so a professional shop will be needed to do the bending/welding.

What mufflers will make the exhaust super loud, but not sound like complete open header type exhaust?

With or without the Cat?

Thanks for any information.

Flowmaster super 10s or dynomax race bullets. Removing cats is not an issue since there is no post cat o2 sensors.

2 3/4" true dual from manifolds back with an h pipe and either muffler will be insanely loud.

This setup right here will scream.

Something like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-25004

Drive it for a while to get it good and hot, then spray cold water on it. It'll shatter the fiberglass inside and I think you'll find the sound you seem to be looking for.

wtf, but no no cherry bomb garbage ill unload a bullet into someones head for each mile that truck goes.

as said race bullets, flowmasters are cheap and loud but do little for any sort of added performance, otherwise borlas, slp lm2, moroso spiral flow, something chambered, etc

He said he wanted loud. That's a cheap way to get it loud

I don't think you'll get a legit muffler shop to remove the cat, unless your not in the US. Catalytic converters are Federal, not state/county required.

Except that nobody has used fiberglass in glasspacks in years. So unless he can find some ancient glasspacks, shooting water in them is pointless. Would be better off just doing true dual straights vs glasspacks IMHO

I have yet to find one that won't cut out cats.
