Cut the doors and put the 6.5s there.

That's one option, but you'll want plate speakers in the dash to bring the sound stage up.
"Quality is king" when it comes to setting up the front sound stage. Especially the 4X6's. You will hear those over a set in the doors.
Also, don't pump a lot of bass to either set of speakers. They will do nothing but pop at you.
A dedicated sub will be needed for bass.

Good luck!

Theres also a speaker mounted on each rear pillar, again 4x6s
I picked up a set of Pioneer on clearance at best buy last night for $25. Unfortunately, they only had one set.
Guy that had the truck before me had some electrical issues and had just run cheap all weather speakers with wire just kinda strewn about in the cabin. I would like a more factory look so I'm literally having to pull apart the dash and run wire from the speakers to a tap splice into the back of the harness

Put 6.5's in the door. And you don't want to use anything in the dash. Sound waves reflecting off the glass sounds like crap.

You could put one set of 6.5s in the rear pillars. I've heard the plate speakers are good. I have 4 inch rounds in my dash kickers and they sound a lot better then stock

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with that. I've heard many systems with decent dash speaker setups that were great. Hell, CDT actually makes a secondary tweeter kit for some of their systems to do exactly what you said, reflect off of the windshield. While I'm not against the door speaker idea, I wouldn't just give up on the 4x6 holes in the dash. I never understood why people don't use all the speaker locations they can. The factory took the time to cut the hole, why not stick something in it?

Do you have pictures of the setup behind the door panel? Did you have to cut the metal panel?

More does not mean better. Plus, the rear speakers in the extended cab trucks should be proof enough that GM wasn't putting sound quality first when locating the speakers in these trucks.

Cody302, assuming you're not using an amp and don't have a crew cab, I would run 4x6s in the dash off the front outputs and 6.5s in the doors off the rear outputs. Forget about any rear speakers. I think that would be your best bet if you want to keep this simple and cheap.

I get that 100%, however I really still don't agree with just leaving speakers out that were there from the factory. I'm just OCD, I guess. My 4" components in the rear of my RCLB certainly don't make or break my system, but I like having some rear fill and it's easy to turn them down enough so that they don't interfere with the output from the front stage.
