While I've been a long-time lurker over the years, I figured I better join to take advantage of the knowledge here.

I've owned my 1989 short box since 2003 as the second owner. It's been parked in storage for the last 4 years and I finally have the time and cash to bring it back to glory. I hauled it home over the long weekend and am going to start the process of a mild restoration in my spare time. It's a 5-speed manual with the original 350 engine. If I remember correctly, it had about 40,000 miles on it when I got it. I used it for almost 10 years as my daily driver before it got relegated to garbage/hardware hauling.

I look forward to reading more while I bring it back to life.

Awesome truck, a unicorn at that. Not everyday that I see another regular cab, shortbox 4x4 with a stickshift and a tree-fiddy with alloy wheels. Looks to be in pretty good shape, too.
Thank you! It's served me well over the years.

Overall it's in pretty good shape with the exception of the cab corner rust and a box dent on the drivers side.

At least they're still there, rockers too. When I met my truck, it had neither. Still doesn't, but it's a daily driver. Thanks to Fluid Film, it hasn't gotten much worse over the years.

I notice that it's also got the cargo light, pretty rare for '89. Power windows & locks? Cruise? Tilt steering wheel? I love me a loaded stick shift.

Nice starting point for a great project, and as a bonus for me.....I now figured out who stole my tail lights in 2004!!!!!! LOL
What are your plans for it? "Mild" means different things to different people.
I can't remember off the top of my head why I went with clear taillights other than I was in my 20s and they were probably cheap on eBay!

First step is getting it fired up which shouldn't be too tough as it ran when parked 3-4 years ago. After that it's getting the little stuff done like the headliner, fixing/replacing the radio. The speedo and cruise stopped working which I'm guessing is the speed sensor. The bench seat has typical wear so I'm going to swap it to a 60/40 split out of another GM.

I'll eventually do the body work and have it repainted. I'd like to make it look nearly new again over the next couple years. My son is 10 and I think it would pretty cool to do it as project and then hand him the keys when he gets licensed.

You guessed it: power windows and locks, AC, cruise and tilt wheel.

The fella I got it from was pretty proud of it as he ordered it and an '89 Celebrity at the same time from the local dealer. He used the car for everyday and called this is "Sunday truck." He was quite the character.
