Looks like a great website with good info.
May be the wrong place but wanted to get some input.
Was looking to get a newer burb,(08 to 13) but a couple deals fell through and they all had bad reviews with oil burning AFM etc. got a line on a 1996 454 4x4 170 k $3500 I can turn a wrench and needs some tlc, not bad on rust no leaks. 4wd may have an electrical issue. Anyone think it’s with it? Don’t care about gas, I’m driving what I want! I’d rather spend $ fixing something that is stead fast and built tough tan the bling of a newer one, although for an old man, they do look nice! Thanks

I would say definitely worth it, I just picked up a 95 454 4wd for 3k and about the same mileage, doesn’t look as nice as yours as far as paint but runs great. This body style is going up in value across the board as well.

Just updating, I love this truck. Just needed some love, a tune up, a little $$$, lots of electrical cleaner changing all the fluids. but she’s a beast. I got to say the distributor cap was the hardest thing to do, as it’s buried.. looking forward to some exhaust to get the full sound of the 454!

WooHoo! another burb, yaye!! Yes the distributor is a bear to get to.Did you climb up in there and lay on the engine? I had a 18'' Magnaflow put on mine and love the sound a lot more than the Flowmaster I had on it.270,500 miles on it and still runs good,A/C even works :)

Yep and my ribs are killing me from laying up there! Glad you like yours too!
Found a giant vacuum tube (L shaped) on the passenger valve cover wide open, can’t find where it connects so I plugged it and friiggen truck runs even better! I’ll have to find what it supposed to connect to. I would think the plenum on the top of the motor, but there’s nothing even close that it would fit… everything I have fixed has been easy, just 20 years of neglect…. Got lucky so far.

Uhhh.. sounds like the vent side of your PCV system. Pretty sure that hose connects to the air intake. I wouldn't leave that plugged. Look around nearby for where it hooks up.

One of the dangers of being old, is getting entirely the wrong mental image when someone talks about vacuum tubes.

I remember when the world was filled with vacuum tubes, sold at every hardware store, K-Mart, Sears...even drug stores.

Every place that sold tubes had the do-it-yourself tube tester machine, with a thousand tubes in boxes ready for sale if the ones you brought in to test turned out to be dead or weak.

GM has a tech booklet discussing the old MIZAR ignition system with a "vacuum tube"; in that case routed from manifold vacuum to the prehistoric "computer".

"I" would call it a vacuum HOSE.

In today's world, the only place a consumer would purchase something with a vacuum tube, would be a microwave oven or certain pieces of esoteric audio amplifiers; including junk "Chi-Fi" knockoffs of reputable tubed stereo gear. However, air traffic control was heavily reliant on tubed radar equipment into the 1990s--and perhaps still is.

There was a time I kinda wanted one of these stereo integrated amplifiers:

Still in production, still made in USA by a company that advertises "Chino, not China". Of course, the tubes are imported from various hell-holes, but the rest is made in Chino, CA.
