twice the mpg? don't think so. in identical trucks, vortec 350 16, tbi 350 14.5, 5.3 17 with the same type of driving. seen and done it. and as soon as you actually work it the 5.3 has to spin to the moon to make power and gets worse, the ls engines can make huge power but they are no working truck engine by a long shot.
yes, that is not the direct replacement although it can work nicely but more work is required, the stock pcm doesn't have fuel trims and such that will support that engine.

ha, a good 350 is twice the engine a 5.3 could ever wish to be in a truck you actually use as a truck.
