so maybe use those same holes and sandwich the hitch frame and block together. a good coat of POR i think would be best, and cheapest, its gonna wear down powdercoat might be a waste of money for something thats ultimate goal is to get rubbed on the ground.

Really crude, but maybe like this under your hitch (black) (frame in red)

yeah, POR would be best.. and i have some on hand at home. The center section that would see most all of the abuse (on rare occasions) could get 1/4 plate welded back if it wore thin. and that's a big IF

Yea, i realize thats far from how your hitch is made, but you get the idea. You could use the existing receiver bolts to hold it on. If you wanted to drag it alot, you could get creative with it and make the center piece of it (the part that sticks lower for the tag holder) bolt on so it could be changed.

thats how i was thinking too, laminate the three pieces together and use preexisting bolt holes, if need be you can weld a tab on the inside of the protected and a tab somewhere on the frame and make a link that goes to both for more support. if your welds pentrate good i wouldnt see a problem with just using bolts after all thats how the hithch is held to the frame and the only way ive seen one of those rip out is when they are rusted really badly.

Just weld a drag plate onto the the bottom of the hitch. It's bolted correctly though the frame so it should be able to distribute the weight wisely.
