98 C1500 pitman and idler arm replacement??

You have to remove your idler arm bracket to get the idler arm out and in. Careful not to drop the bolts inside the frame. Have a magnet ready!

The K has a longitudinal crossmember brace welded in in juuuuust the wrong spot though.....:mad:

Thats the difference. Thanks for the correction. I knew there was a way to do it on the C trucks with the gearbox on the frame. The K trucks... No way in HELL. As far as getting the pitman arm off the gear box, a small 2 jaw gear puller works as good as a pitman arm puller in a pinch.

I just did mine on a 94 K1500 and it's pretty much what was described here. Now I was doing all the front end parts, balljoints, CV's, hubs, bushings, etc so I had the whole front end ripped apart making removing the steering box a breeze. Seems to me it would be easier that way anyway but I don't really have a frame of reference for a 2wd. The socket for the pitman arm is a 34mm.
