Today I went out, and started wet sanding. At first I lightly used a red Scotch Bright, (320-400 grit depending on who you ask), to get the big stuff out.

Then I used 400 to knock down all the bit's of bug's and dandelion's in my paint. I had my block in one hand and hose in the other, I kept everything thoroughly soaked.

Even so, I still burned through the paint in a couple spot's. This Rustoleum went on really really thin. When i get home tomorrow I'll go up to 800 grit.

If everything thing is clapped out (or very near it) I'd toss that 44 under it. My opinion based on how big a ***** the factory stuff is, maybe you wont wheel it, but it still gotta be more reliable as a solid axle than that ifs crap.

also...yellow, yeah sure. I was going to be a hypocrite and say "Yay! Somebody painted something other than black white or grey" but then remembered I finally settled on painting mine Cyber Grey Metallic. Le sigh...

Yeah, it need's everything, including brakes. And a brake job is almost enough to justify it alone lol.

I can throw caliper's on the IFS, and use it while I fix the rest, it's way less up front cost. And, I only want it as a work truck, camping truck, whatever.

But, a Dana 44 seems like a much better investment of my money long term. Hell, i can put it in another truck someday if I want, the IFS is going to the scrapyard with this truck lol.

I like the yellow, gives the truck a taller look. Amazing how some colors really change how you look at a vehicle even though you didn't do much to change it other than the color.

It actually seems to fit a fair bit higher than my other 400's did, I'm guessing because of the 8600 GVRW? Idk, but I feel like I could easily clear 33's as is.

Do it, if nothing else the resale value will shoot up.

Eh, IDK, that's the kind of all in mod that usually doesn't net you any money lol. Just takes it.

It's hard to see from the pics, but it looks awful in 400 grit scratches lol.

My truck is 8600gvwr and bar crank and stuffed 36's under. Trim fender and bumper is all, also wheel backspacing was like 4 something, stuck out a bit.

scratches and poo gone, because any pro painter knows scratches and poo can not be tolerated. Ha

Well that's encouraging, I was thinking an upside of doing an SAS would be I would have room to use the Military takeoff's for cheap tires lol. Because, of course, it need's tires too lol.

So i've woken up in regard's to the whole SAS thing, I really don't need another project, I need a driver.

Pigpen is going to stay IFS, for at least a few year's.

I'm sure mine will need steering components too, when I took it down the road, the wheel was at about the 10:00 position while going straight, and felt pretty vague. I must say the brakes actually felt good for as much rust that is on them from sitting around for 6 years. It can't be worse than the last one I parted out with nearly 350k, the wheel had a good 45 degrees of play back and forth with no effect on steering direction.
