Thanks a lot for the pics, it looks as tight on the Dr side as I thought it would be. I may stick with the y-pipe then, i was wrong on the price to one with out a cat is only $78. It will be around tax time before I can mess with it though if I can then. At least I have an idea of what would be required now. I would probably just drive to the exhaust shop with open headers and let them bend something up since I dont have a welder....

I like how you cut a 180-pipe in half and rotated half or it to make that offset(zig zag), atleast it looks like that's what you did. Nice welds!

exactly what i did. the welds are kinds ******, i didnt have a good welder and everything was cut with a grinder so there was lots of filling.

If i were to do it again i would have a shop do it up as well, i'm not sure where you could run a y-pipe to cross over any closer on the drivers side.. thats why mine is where it is, and its close to the universal so i dont tear it off from hanging low. I am probably going to need a new uni now but will be putting a heat shield on.

Cool, thanks for the info. I just found these by flow tech 49156FLT for $196. The dr side collector makes a left and allows you to run their y-pipe 49156YFLT $130, makes the setup 326 before shipping.

Interesting option, might be slightly out of my range though considering theres another 300 at the exhaust shop for piping, muffler and tips....

that is interesting, wouldnt be a bad option either.. if you went this way it would be cheaper at the exhaust shop (running one pipe rather than 2). but i dont know anything about the fitment of these headers and i dont know anybody that has them either. looks legit though.

Does anyone know what an AIR or air injection reactor is?

Basically my 96 has four o2 sensors and an air injection reactor on the drivers side..

How do you go around these things? Why do they not make complete long tube header to tailpipe kit for these trucks that would have the bungs and everything.

Another thing is if you dont delete the o2 sensors they wouldnt work anyways because the upstream on the drivers side has to go through the cat

Its just damn confusing. If i dont have my o2 sensors wont my truck run rich and turn my bumper black?

You cannot get around the front O2 sensors, they control the AF ratio, the rears only monitor emissions, they can easily be deleted. AIR & EGR can also be easily deleted like the rear O2 sensors, its all emissions. Running rish can do more than just put out soot, you can also wash your cylinders if its too rich & then your in for a rebuild.

Honestly I'd say the best bet would be to order a set without any O2 sensors or emission provisions, like a race only application. Then have a exhaust shop weld (1) O2 sensor bung on each collector to monitor each bank. I have not found a single set of longtubes for these 96-97' trucks with the right O2 bungs which is kinda weird. You can get them all day long for 99'+ trucks.
