Hey all.

picking up a new truck Monday. This would be my 3rd gmt400 thus far.

Looking for info/opinions and what to expect performance wise with this new rig

Previous ride:
1994 K1500 ecsb 6.5td with 4L80e told it was a HD 1/2 ton

new truck:
1992 K2500 ecsb 5.7 with manual trans... this being a "light duty" 3/4t

The 6.5 had acceptable performance and towing abilities for my needs. Can i expect similar capabilities out of the new rig... looking to haul no more than a yard - yard & 1/2 of gravel and towing capability needs to handle a +/- 4000# 25' trailer (has brakes & weight dist. hitch)

Whats the deal with heavy halves and light 3/4s? is it the same equipment?

where can I find the actual specs for the 1992 3/4???
*rear brakes be the same? I have a full rear brake kit left over from the old truck & new truck needs drums*

Thanks!

Yes heavy half and light 3/4 are pretty much the same capabilities. Though the 6.5 1500 adds some extra heavy duty parts. 92 had 6 lug 2500's, and I've seen a 8 lug 1500 6.5 so you'll have to check closer for the brakes. If the lug nut count is the same 90% chance you have the same brakes. You can find info online I have PDFs of dealer books for both of my trucks. The door jamb sticker and rpos in the glove box are your best info for YOUR truck as they use the same books for so many trucks and options.

all the diesels had hydro boost brakes....i don't think the 6 lug 2500 does, most likely J6B. i think the 8 lugs got the J7B brakes(8,600 gvw?)....and the gearing may be different. you could get 4.10 in the 2500. i think in any 1500 3.73 was the lowest gearing available..i may be wrong...but GM did do some weird stuff.

somewhere i read there was, or someone had a K1500 6.5 with a 9.25 front differential......that would be a heavy 3/4 ton.
