Looked high and low for an existing thread to ask this question on. Couldn't find one. I apologize if I missed it. Figured I'd start a new one.
This is for my '95 K3500 dually.
To get away from the chrome wheel covers (impossible to reach valve stems) I am moving to the '08-'10 factory dually five-spoke steel rim (no wheel covers).
Currently on the original 16" steelies I'm running 235/85-16 tires with no rubbing while turning (front), no sidewall touching (rear). On the 17" steelies I calculate I can run a 235/80-17 tire, which is just a little taller.
Calculators can get you only so close. Tires rarely measure true to their stated size. Anybody running this same OEM 17" rim? Anybody running this size tire (235/80-17) on their dually Without issue/rubbing/touching?
Anybody care to recommend an 'affordable' A/T tire that doesn't have raised white letter on one side. On a dually there would always be either white-letters-out on the front and black sidewall on the rear or vise-a-verse-a. That would bother me every time I'd look at my truck. I've looked at M/T tires, but anticipate a lot more road noise on the highway. Like to find an A/T that doesn't require me to sell a kidney to pay for a six, but not fall apart in a couple thousand miles (unicorn?). Open to suggestions.
