Currently have 255/50r20 on the front the of my 96 c2500 with 4/6 drop. not much room for tire travel up before the tread face eats the wheel well. I’m wanting to run a shorter tire but the tire shop wouldn’t sell me anything smaller than what I have because the load index wasn’t high enough. They say my truck requires a 110 load index. when I do the math a 110 load index is 2337lbs x 4 tires = 9348lbs. My gvwr is 7200lbs. I’m not towing or hauling heavy this is a street truck/grocery getter. What load index would be safe on the truck?

Thanks. Thats what I was thinking. I asked about a 255/40r20 with a 101 load index and the guy at the tire shop acted like I was crazy for wanting to run a less than a 110 load index
