I swapped in a 99 Escalade cluster into my 96 Suburban today. Now, my fuel hand bounces around when I brake or accelerate. It didn't do it with my other cluster and it's driving me crazy. I took it back out this afternoon just to make sure everything was making a good connection and it is as far as I can tell. Any ideas what could be the cause?

Bad stepper motor in the cluster or the buffer fluid for the fuel gauge is gone.

How many miles on the cluster?
My 97 has 160k and the gauge bounces around on accel/decel. The denali cluster I put in with 293k the fuel gauge was really bad.

It has 240,***, which is less than what I actually have on mine. I did swap out the odometer, I just had tires and intake gasket work done and both shops keep up with the mileage. I called myself using the search funtion but never came across this article. Thanks for the replies! I just ordered the oil!
