i plan on trying to unplug mine tomorrow to try it out and ive read thread on replacing the evo sensor before and i am almost positive it requires pulling the steering wheel which is a pain in itself

IIRC all you have to do is unbolt the steering shaft from the bottom of the column then you can replace the sensor.

so i unplugged mine from the power steering pump for a day or so and i didnt like it unplugged, it felt to responsive, no play, so i plugged it back in
