I'd say that oil pressure switch/sender is bad. Mine is flaky too.

my 4.3 is that low at idle and i run 530 synthetic in it now.

Mine does the same thing. It starts roughly when the oil level drops a bit and seems to be right around 3k miles. I'm running Amsoil 5w30. I just top it off and keep going. You will know when you have no oil trust me
