New tailgate old truck

I have a 1997 gmc k2500 i need a new tailgate and im looking at some of the new ones and im wondering how difficult it would be to put a newer model truck tailgate on my older truck

The newer tail gates are totally different, you're better off getting a tailgate that fits these trucks.

Ok cause ive seen the 99-06 on the back of them before so i was wondering if i could retro fit one of the new gmc tail gates
