Hi, new member, '98 C1500 5.7/auto.

Embarassing first question because I feel like I'm missing something right in front of my face.....bought a second hand factory GM hitch receiver, PN 15724874, supposed to bolt in.

Bolts line up on both sides of the frame, however the actual receiver is halfway up/behind the bumper and recessed about 6" behind the bumper. Wrong hitch? Different bumper required?

Thanks in advance

Snap one of the frame holes your matching it to. Looks like wrong hitch

GM parts giant lists that part# as not fitting a 1998 c1500.....

https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/...year=1998&submodel=&extra1=&extra2=&filter=()

....but it will fit a 1998 Tahoe (according to them).

https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/...r=1998&submodel=2WD&extra1=&extra2=&filter=()

Maybe its for those gmt400s with the gas tank in the rear, like Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon and Escallade.

Think I remember others discussing the differences in rear bumper brackets between the suburbans and pickups as well.

Hopefully others with more knowledge will chime in.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Yeah, weird, I got the same results, like these folks list it as fitting.

Guessing I would lean towards gmpartsgiant being correct, especially since you seem to have confirmed that it doesn't seem to fit.

Here is a interesting discussion, seems to mention certain hitches sitting higher on pickup trucks.

"....I've read from numerous sources that when you do a 3 inch body lift, if you get the 99 Escalade hitch that it will tuck under your bumper very nicely......"

Lucky for me I have a Chevy truck junkyard 20min away. They had about 50 hitches to choose from so I was able to trade them my hitch plus 50 bucks for a nice Reese unit that looks alot better and has the 7 pin plug built I to the frame. Blessing in disguise I suppose. Thanks all for the help

You gave them your hitch and $50? I think I paid $15 for my hitch from Pull-A-Part. Then again, every truck at PAP here has a hitch, so may not be as common in your area.
