Friend of mine asked me to put together a 400 for him.
He has double hump heads that he wants on there.
Motor will be stock with a .30 over bore making it a 406
He has a 750 cfm carb but i think its to big of a carb for the set up.
What you guys think?
Also what intake to use?
Victor jr?
Edelbrock performer?
Dont know about cam yet either

Its going to be mainly a cruising truck with the occasional track day.

750 cfm with vacuum secondaries is definitely streetable, but around a 600-650 returns better low end and fuel mileage.

Dual plane is better on the street, single plane can be street run but is more bias towards top end.

Cam choice is a huge factor on a carbureted engine.

Your bud needs to be honest with himself on whether he wants a good all around driver or a track weapon....a vehicle hat straddles both is a compromise in both.

EFI can make up for a lot of that compromise on the street though. 500 hp engines can be made perfectly streetable with the right calibration.

Carbs and cams get a little "dicey" on a streetable vehicle at that level.....they need to be set up juuuust right or: disappointment.

Im going to say it will be a street truck.
He is wanting to go with the 750 because he already has it.

Found a lot of info on making it a roller cam set up using stock L31 parts.
looks to be the way we will be going with this.
