96 k1500 5.0L

truck has 1500 dollars worth of new dook on it
rebuilt trans new radiator 14bolt sf upgrade with 4.88 and elocker
new coil new mpfi spider new o2 sensors new distributor different cap and wires
60psi at idle new cat cleaned map sensor new egr new coil new exhaust alternator
acdelco parts on the ignition new fuel filter...
only thing ive not done recently is change the plugs..

it runs sweet up till 2000 rpm. then it begins to miss and pop in the exhaust
i have heard that 96-97 have a grounding strap from the trans to the frame to the firewall and that this has been known to cause problems.
i cant figure it out.

its a new distributor with probably 400 miles on it
i have it finalized at my buddies with a tech 2

the only way the timing is causing it is if the timing chain has slack i guess...

i keep hearing guys having missing up untill 2000rpm.. im the opposite..

Valve timing and ignition timing are two unrelated things.

A miss can be from anything. What kind of spark plugs do you have what kind of miles are on them? And just because you replaced the part, doesn't mean you have a good part. I'm young and I can't even begin to think of all the new parts I've seen go bad.

im a younger guy too and yes ill 100 percent agree that new parts fail
delco parts right out of the box
im thinking its the cap but i dont want to put a 3rd 40 dollar cap and rotor on there unless im sure...
has anyone found a flat cap and rotor that actually last more than 6 months?

its not exactly at 2k rpm but thats when it starts to get violent and buck and pop in the exhaust.

its got the 12 dollar each platinum plugs in there now- theyre realllly old i need to pull them and look
i have a set of acdelco r45ts that i bought for it a while ago to try out cause imho thats all u need..

ive been hunting po300's on this truck since i got it hence why so much new parts.

i will work at it and let everyone know what i find.

just thought it odd that it goes from a skipping miss before 2k to a dead missing p0300 after
<2k it random misses slightly may notice may not, >2k the misses are obvious..

think its the cap- ive got some **** to try and ive not had it to the tech 2 yet
