I want to put a rear axle from a 2000 up in my 98 Ext cab Z/71. Has anyone done this and is there any mods or does it go right in?? I want to get rid of the drums and the bad limited slip and go to discs and a better rear. What is the best locker in these trucks? My gear is 3.42

You'd have to make sure the axle width and spring perches are in the right spot, and then check the gear ratio on the rear before you pull it, make sure the donor is a 4x4

Probably easier to pull of a 88-98 though, no modifications required, as long as it's 4x4 the width and spring perches will be in the right spot, I'm sure there is someone who's swapped discs onto these rear ends

Not a bolt in. Spring perches are different at least. Pretty sure they're more narrow but I'm not positive. You can swap discs for drums. Tons of people do it.

The spring perches need to be moved, you should be able to google the center to center width is for NBS trucks, but for OBS trucks it's 47" center to center on the spring perch width.
