(Not a 411 swap discussion) :Big Laugh:

There seems to be differences, or at least scan tool compatibility differences between the 96/97 and the 98/99 PCM’s. Are they forward and backward compatible with each other?
Plug-n-play? Technical information welcomed.

no they are not plug n play not completely any way 96-97 pcms have 5 plugs you can put a 96 in a 97 or the other way around 98-00 black box have 4 plugs you can take one out of one of those years and put it in another one of those years but it will need a vats delete and a tune if it came from a truck that was not the same engine transmission and gear ratio as the one you took out same goes for the 96-97 while you do not have to deal with vats on them they will need a tune if what they came from dose not match what you want to put it in

I could be wrong I do not remember but I think I saw once that 96-97 pcms have 2 boards in them and the 5th plug connects them and the 98-00 pcms are single board

Well now I’m wondering if 411-ing a 96/97 would allow it to gain access with the other scan tools.

Watching that video you shared, it seems like about the same amount of work as a 411 swap to get a 98/99 into a 96/97.
