Looking to get a chevy 350 crate motor for my 94 to replace my mechanically injected 6.5.... So i'm gonna run a GM Performance drop in replacement motor...

88-95 Chevy Crate Motor (Pre-Vortec)
96-00 Chevy Crate Motor (Vortec)

I'll be running a carb on ether one, but I'm leaning towards the 96+ motor due to the better design of the vortec heads, etc.

I will be buying a brand new torque converter... the question is do all 350's use the same flywheel?

No, vortec flywheels (flexplate if you wanna be politically corect for an auto) are weighted.

Okay so would a Pre-vortec flywheel work do you know?

I don't see why not since they all use a 1pc rear main seal, i'd think the bolt pattern would be the same. It's gonna be a carb'd 350, just using a 96-00 350 crate. The guys at Summit told me that i can easily take this motor and add a carb intake, that people buy them for projects all the time. I just wanna know what flywheel/flexplate to use for a 4L80E, i'll prolly be picking up a monstertrans torque converter which doesn't specify any specific year. That shouldn't matter.

So i just called Summit Racing. they told me regardless of what GM crate i go with (88-95 or 96-00) i can use the same flywheel and run a carb on it.

So that answers that.

My 90 TBI 350 flywheel is weighted. They should all be the same.

What will you be using to control the transmission

Hey sorry i just saw this.... lol

I've already purchased the US Quick Shift 1 (formerly Optishift) controller for the mechanical injection conversion i did so it's already installed. All the transmission will need is a more adequate torque converter, and a reprogramming of the module to better adhere to the SBC's numbers.
