I'm trying to identify what this transmission came out of originally. It was transplanted into my '89 Cheyenne and I'm fairly certain it came out of an Fbody. The tag reads 2FTM. I can ascertain the 2 being 1992, and the M signifies 700R4, but the FT I cannot find any info on. A friend wants to use this in his '55 Chev sedan. Can someone help me? Thanks

You're sure it's a 700-R4, the 4L60 not "E" was also installed.
The M model becomes a 4L60, there's a trans decode forum. Did you search " 2FTM transmission" see what bites?
2 -92, FT - formula firebird 5.0 TBI, M- 4L60.
The GM dealer could also search their database give you correct answer.

Thanks, Gents. Sorta confirms what I thought about being an F body trans. It never occurred to me that it would be a 4L60. It had the tail housing of an F body, with the mounting bosses for a longitudinal rear axle brace, and a speedometer drive wheel instead of a relucter wheel that the trucks need. I spent a good deal of time trying to find ID code info on the interweb, but had no luck. Could be that I wasn't asking the "right" question

4L60/700r4 has a TV cable, 4L60E does not, and the numbers in the rebuilding books say it's definitely a 92, gearing doesn't change between vehicles, it's got the auxiliary valve body so it's the better version
