1994 Column shift slop,how to fix

The tilt is fine but the auto column shift has slop, not the handle on the column its somewhere else.when i have the trans detent in neutral i can push the shift lever up and it will show reverse on the indicator and pull it down to show its in drive on the indicator, the detent stays in neutral when i do this but there is slop somewhere.How do i tighten this up? Could it be the lower column bearing? 200k on truck 1994 reg cab 4l60e.
