1999 2500 TD

Hello, new member here. Heard about the site from a coworker, and am very interested in what the site has to offer. As of right now, i own two Gmt400 type trucks. The first one (Blue one) is a 1994 Chevy Silverado 1500. Regular cab, long bed. 5.7L and auto trans with 211,000. Nothing to special about the truck other than it is sitting on 285/75/r16 treadwrights. Ole' Blue got sold :( to fund ******.

The second one (White one) is a 1999 Chevy Silverado 2500 which i just bought tonight. It has a 6.5L turbo diesel, auto trans, and 280,000 miles. Extended cab, short bed. Ran the hour and a half trip home with absoultly no problem, holding 50-60 oil psi, and water temp stayed below 200. Since its dark, i have not got to look at it to much. I do know it has 265/76/r16 tires, a 3 inch body lift and a 5th wheel tailgate. Also has a boost gauge, that for some reason wasnt hooked up. Also has a break controller.

Hopefully i uploaded the pictures correctly. One of the pictures is me pumping my first tank of diesel...EVER! And boy did it feel great!

After i get the 2500 titled and insured, the 1500 will be up for sale if anyone is interested!

Any advice about either truck is greatly appreciated.

Nice trucks. But im curious about the K2500...Does it still have its fan shrouds on the rad or just the upper one? Myself and another member on here have been talking about the feasibility of body lifting a Diesel and after some chatting on the truckstop forum i got the feeling it was gonna be a major hassle to make it all work

Paid $3200 for the diesel. Its a great price, in my area anyway. If i passed it up, i never would have found another one like it.

Thanks man! Mine has been a great truck. Probably have about 100 miles on her already, and she rides great! I try not to have a heavy pedal so i can get the 20mpg the previous owner was getting, but sometimes its hard. Especially when a young kid at the store hears your truck start up and his jaw drops!

I would like to say 97proshoz71, that your truck is beautiful. I wish my 1994, or even my 1999 looked as good as that!

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate comments like that! Yours can look awesome too with several hours of work put into cleaning it up. I clean it up several hours each weekend to keep it looking good.

welcome, since you are new to the 6.5 diesel, the first thing to know is always use a lube like diesel service with your fuel, the ulsd fuel these days does a number on injector pumps, you should also carry a spare pmd as they are prone to failing, if the previous owner put a pmd relocation kit on the intake like many people have not knowing any better, then that needs to be moved.

these motors are also prone to oil line clip failure on the block which destroys the motor, i strongly suggest the lubrication specialist oil cooler kit

your body lift and what was done for the shroud concerns me as well, the 6.5 when it hits 210* is when things start to crack as the #8 cyl is usually around 230* at that point, you really dont want it to be above 210* for any amount of time, the factory gauge is not accurate so i direct reading one is best.

another thing to watch is your balancer and pulley, the rubber goes bad in them and has been known to cause crank breakage, hopefully they have been replaced by the previous owner(should have been with that mileage) with quality ones at some point , cheap part store ones only seem to last 3 months or so.

keep a close eye on coolant, if its starts disappearing then you may have the common block cracking in the lower end the 506 block is known for from the piston squirters into the waterjacket, you may even have a different motor in it already, my 98 is on its 3rd one from that same common problem, the block i have now does not have squirters since it was a non turbo block
