1998 K1500 cruise control trouble

I've been having the same issue for years. I just drove from Utah to Colorado and my CC will work for many miles and then stop. I turn it off, wait 10 seconds and reset. It will work again and then stop after awhile. Wash, rinse and repeat. It's frustrating. I didn't know about the third brake...
