    Advice

I have managed to get the exhaust off and driveshaft next hurtle is trying to get the t-case and trans up high enough to remove the cross member. Is there any way to disconnect the t-case enough to drop the trans while leaving it in the truck?

It is a 4wd variety and so far two biggest issues I've run to in the front drive shaft does not want to let go of the transfer case and the exhaust collector (I know it's not technically a collector but idk what else to call it) nuts that I just had off 2ish years ago are now one with the stud

    Advice

So I will be replacing my trans soon as the one in my truck currently failed due to the radiator failing in a manner letting coolant into the trans cooler lines and was just wondering if there is any advice y'all who have done this once or twice can offer. If it makes a difference it's a 96 variety.

    Stupid rear break question.

So how does the auto adjuster on these trucks work. Does it adjust when I apply the parking brake or brake normal or when reversing?

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

Well I finally decided to try to flip it at the upper joint in the bay and that seems to have worked and quick check shows clock spring works from lock to lock so I now have a steering wheel oriented correctly for the first time since buying the truck 2 years ago

Will look into that but wouldn't that make the rag joint be out?

From what I've been told/seen/experienced frame is straight. Been under the truck plenty of times and not seen a bend in it and had a good alignment in it (tho wheel was still wrong side up) and truck drove straight. A bent frame would lead me to believe the truck would never drive straight. The...

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

I really just wanna fix it to read gauges. If I find it's gonna be a 3+ hour job of something of that nature I will have to decide if I deem it worth it to fix. Because while it is a bit annoying I don't know that it is annoying enough to me (knowing I will be the final owner of this truck) to...

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

Thank you I will check that tomorrow if I get time last thing I wanna do is take something that works but is mildly annoying and turn it into something that doesn't work at all.

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

Alright I will double-check the steering gear is centered and other things in the column. Just to be clear I would check center by going lock to lock and counting turns correct?

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

We didn't rotate it much at all and that was about 2ish years ago. Now I'm here trying to sort out where to go some suggested rag joint but mine riveted, someone suggested an alignment and that wont work as I've been told there's just not enough tie rod

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

We didn't grease the splines or nothing so maybe that was a factor. Was easier once we just free rotate so we could then line the lines up

@alpinecrick I know you said you have replaced the gearbox a few times. Is it possible that I installed the shaft 180 out on the box itself. I recall us having difficulties getting the shaft on the new box and it took me and one other person using pry pars to get it to slide on. We tried with...

Like I said can't complain too much when it's being done free in spare time.

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

As I said I did go lock to lock found it was about 1 and 3/4 turns to the left and 1 and just a bit past half to right. The diagram appears to be missing. As far as the shop goes it's one that a family member works at I think for the most part I told them to just align it with the wheel upside...

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

None of the above. I put the pitman on and recall it having an index as for alignments I've taken it to a shop to get it aligned like 3 times

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

Wouldn't surprise me if the *** joint was replaced supposedly truck hit a deer or smth is its past. I find I can slide that plastic shroud up not much but just enough to see the rag joint. Now I'm a bit confused b/c at first, you say the factory rag join is riveted but then you mention bolts on...

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

Alright so after counting the turns to full lock it is pretty close I'd say off by less than 1/4 off a turn with more turning to the left than the right which should've figgered right has always had some slop to it but so did my last gmt400 so figured that just how they are

Hmm I will go try that and see if it is equal

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

It is and can therefor only been installed one way and I am sure it is on correctly as I did that myself. I don't think anything is too wonky with alignment as it's not been brought up when I've taken it for alignments they just align with the wheel upside down.

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

See I thought about getting it aligned with the wheel straight was told there isn't enough thread on the tie rods for that
  22. Qball

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

As far as all that goes I think it's fine. When the wheel is straight upside down the tires point straight and I've had the truck aligned a couple of times since I've owned it and I think if the tie rods were installed wrong I would've been told

Where are you unbolting it from I seem to only have two choices at the gear box and then up near the firewall. Also 4 times? Why?

    Steering Wheel Upside Down

You know it's hard to say but it doesn't look like mine looks like that when I pull back the plastic beauty cover. There doesn't appear to be bolts to loosen it. It may just be I wasn't able to get the cover back far enough to see them
