Where to mount aux trans filter?

Sorry it took me a bit to reply, didn't realize the thread had replies. Two years and ~10k miles, no issues. Not an exotic setup, used the included hardware and spliced into the hot side of the trans cooler. I definitely see the logic in not adding one for fear of another failure point. If the...

Talk me into, or out of, it...

I also had a truck (‘72 F-100) where someone welded a bolt on receiver to the frame. Only they didn’t bolt it and they welded it crooked. :(

    Electrical problems

We're narrowing this down. I think it's either a ground (which I know you have looked at) or I would highly suspect the large gauge connection from the battery to the under-hood fuse box. Follow that all the way across the top of the radiator to the fuse panel and inspect the connection there.

    Electrical problems

I would assume they are directly related. The things that aren't working are all high-current devices that are probably just not getting sufficient amps from the system to start up. Seems like a good idea to fix that battery terminal issue. I would think you could tap that and use a larger bolt...

    Cold Starts / Really Cold

I have never experienced that level of cold but it seems possible that on first crank it dumped so much fuel that it flooded and letting it sit for a bit let some of that fuel evaporate. I have had a fuel injected vehicle flood itself in cold weather starting (around 0 deg F) and cranking with...

    What's your mpg...

Thanks. There are a lot of them out there, at least, here in Oregon. I honestly had been looking for a "3+3" crew cab square body before I realized I was pretty much priced out of that. Didn't really know much at all about the GMT400 trucks at the time and now that I pay attention, decent K2500s...

    What's your mpg...

First time I've really measured my truck empty in the two and a half years I've owned it. Made a 500mi round trip journey up to WA and back a couple of weekends ago. Averaged 14.5 mpg, didn't go over 70 mph but a couple of times, tried to just keep the cruise set and keep it steady. Got into...

    First Snow Drive

Since it's a new-to-you truck, I might suggest finding a gravel road and actually putting it in 4WD for a bit to make sure everything's working and it'll actually engage. In the limited off-road driving I've done with other folks, a surprisingly large number of them have been stuck when they...

    4x4 issue

Will it go into 4 Hi from 2wd if you are, say, driving slowly on a gravel road? I don't think your problem is the front diff actuator. J

    No 4wd and grinding noises

Or just jack up the front end and shift the transfer case to 4wd (engine off). If you can turn the front driveshaft by hand, it's not in 4wd. Maybe disconnect the shifter from the transfer case and see if you can get it in by moving the lever on the case by hand.

    4L80 Transmission Temporarily Overheating

Hey! I have been to the WAAAM several times, lots of fun. Several GMT400s with truck campers on this site, here's mine in eastern Minnesota this past summer. This is a few weeks after we drove up 97 through the Gorge when it was 116 degrees. The transmission got plenty warm on that one.

    4L80 Transmission Temporarily Overheating

Hey there- I have a '97 with 5.7L, 4L80E, and spent about a month on the road last year with my truck camper that is a little smaller than yours (I have 3.73 diff gears- don't know what you have). Take-aways: with the large frontal area of the camper and added weight, the 5.7L was really...

Air in ABS causing front brake vibration..........UPDATE BRAKES FIXED

The (Raybestos) drums that I put on my K2500 a couple of years ago were garbage from the factory. Crazy how out of round they were.

    Rod bearings??

I would say, IF you plan on going forward with this plan: at least buy some plastigauge and see what your clearances are with a stock size bearing. I'm guessing they'll be... bad. Then try a +0.010 and you'll see... they're going to be too tight. But you'll know, at least, before you run it, how...

    Uhhh ok?

I usually don’t have any trouble stacking people up for something I’m selling. If someone commits to buying something and I am getting a good impression from them (i.e. they are communicating well and not giving off flake vibes) then I will tell other interested people that they are #2, #3, etc...

Front end sag with snow plow

Don’t think I saw this posted, these seem to be popular for folks that run plows. I have them on the rear of my truck and they work great with the added weight of the camper. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tbi-gmfk25s/make/chevrolet/model/k2500/year/1997

Heavy Duty Shock Suggestions for 1999 C2500 For Hauling Truck Camper

And to be clear: when I say “fairly light configuration”, that is when compared to the 8600 lb GVWR of the truck.

Heavy Duty Shock Suggestions for 1999 C2500 For Hauling Truck Camper

I have Timbrens in the rear on our camper setup and they definitely add a lot of overall stability to our setup. Our loaded camper and truck are just a shade under 10k lbs though so that might end up being lighter than OP’s setup. I have had a lot of good experiences with Monroe Gas Magnum...

    Front Receiver Hitch

Thanks for the kind words. Mine is a 10.5’ Western Wilderness brand. Fairly light for its size. What the RPO codes reference can be found pretty easy on the web with a little googling. Hope you have fun with yours, truck campers really are my preferred camping rigs.

Hey- is that the one where the bolt doesn’t turn and you’re supposed to remove the nut? I feel like I started to round off mine and then realized that.

    Front Receiver Hitch

Hey there fellow Oregonian. I have a front receiver on my K2500 (because I also have a truck camper and needed a rack up there). I looked at the installation instructions for my receiver and it calls out compatibility with C2500 6-lug models only, not the HD 8-lug. I don’t know enough about...

    Help figuring out steering play.

It’s hard to show the amount of input to output play in a mounted box but basically any real play you can discern with your hands is going to be problematic. Might be time to sit down with the credit card and plan a front end rebuild. I put a Redhead + a new rag joint on my truck about 6,500...
