Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Thanks! The rust isn't a surprise. It started life as a work truck in Key Largo, Fla. Spent lots of time rolling through salt water after storms flooded parking lots and such. I'm surprised that it isn't worse, to be honest.

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner! That was the problem. Easy to see when the hanger came out of the tank. The hose was, well, hosed. Cracked and in place, but obviously not able to hold pressure. I dropped the tank. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Unfortunately, the fuel lines on...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I'm convinced that dropping the tank is right for me. There are some fuel lines and wiring I want a closer look at.

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

I'm going to drop the tank and check the whole kit and caboodle of stuff inside the tank before I buy anything. That little hose could be the issue. I found a hanger without pump for about $80, and the EP381 for about $60, so that's probably what I'll go with if it's not that hose. I'll be...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Put 12v on the OBD1 G pin, and the pressure gauge still showed 0. I'm too far away to hear if the pump ran or not. Went into the wheel well and disconnected the ground and wiring connector. Using a separate battery, I grounded the battery to the frame, and to the ground wire coming from the...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

I see it! That looks like it's a lot easier than worming around the wheel. Thanks a bunch, I'll do that next good weather day I get! If that doesn't work, then I'll go to the dark side. ;)

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

I think I can get to the wiring harness on the rail at the pump. Would it be a bad idea to put 12 volts to the grey wire and ground to the ground wire to see if the pump works? Thanks!

I thought about that, then forgot to do it. I'll check that before I get into the wiring checks. Thanks! I thought about that, then forgot to do it. I'll check that before I get into the wiring checks. Thanks!

Whew! I was starting to get confused again. A state I'm all too familiar with. :)

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Am I missing something? The engine will not run at a constant speed. I don't have any fuel pressure. I don't understand how adjusting the idle, or the IAC, would have anything to do with that.

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Nope. Using the throttle it won't maintain a constant RPM. Not 1K, not 3K, not at any RPM. I have to constantly work the throttle to keep it running, or it dies.

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Thanks Peter, that makes my life easier. I'm reading so much differing info (other forums) my head hurts. :)

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Thanks AuroraGirl! I already checked the IAC, and disconnected the battery to reset everything. I can't set the idle, because it won't idle. If I don't continuously work the throttle, the engine dies. Last observation is I have no fuel pressure, so now it's down to checking wires, then a fuel...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Thanks for the road forward! It looks like I'm going to be checking some wiring, which I hate, but it's better than spending a bunch of money on parts, only to have to do it after parts don't fix the problem. I checked the fuel pressure gauge because I thought it odd that the engine would run...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Hey Peter, I'm doing this on my own, so I can't listen and turn the key, or check the injectors when it's running. The pressure gauge is 0-100, so maybe it's got a couple of pounds but doesn't show it. Key on, engine off, no pressure reading. I put the gauge in between the filter and the TBI. I...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

I'm baaacck! Finally got the water heater replaced, and the sewer line cleaned out, and it quit raining for a few hours, so I got time to check my fuel pressure. I installed the adaptor between the fuel filter and the TBI. Nothing. Zero reading. No pressure on the gauge. Not when I turned the...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

I checked the CTS, and it seems to be working. 3.2 K ohms cold (local temp is 78F) then I ran it for a few minutes, on dash temp gauge came up from the bottom, 440 ohms. According to a list I found in another thread, I think it's working. Supposed to get the fuel tester tomorrow or Sat. After...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Hello Schurkey! Thanks for your advice. I ordered the Actron CP7838, and that includes a recommended adaptor. Hopefully that will work. I'm trying to keep expenses down, so before I spend a bunch on a scanner, I'll try the cheaper testing first. My time is cheap (I'm retired). If I can't find...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

Thanks Richard! Turns out my buddy doesn't have a fuel pressure tester, so I ordered one. I'll check the CTS tomorrow. I have a digital multimeter, and I'm pretty familiar with using it. ;)

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

No info from the OBD1. No surprise there, I had the battery disconnected yesterday repairing grounds. Ran the engine (bumping throttle) for a while, and still no codes. Nobody around here (south Mississippi) makes house calls. Any suggestions for a scanner that is relatively affordable (under...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

I'm hoping to check fuel pressure tomorrow. A buddy is supposed to bring his testor. Changed PCV valve a couple of days ago. Air filter is clean. Other parts are kinda old. The truck was running fine before it sat too long. Inside the distributer looks good, plug wires look good. Don't have a...

Have to bump throttle to keep running. Won't run at any steady RPM.

I haven't (seriously) turned a wrench since carburetors and points, so I'm at a loss. 1994 C1500 Silverado 350 TBI automatic. Seldom used ethanol. The truck sat for 6 months or so. When I tried to start it, it did the below. I drained the gas, put in fresh, and changed the fuel filter. It...
