Diagnosing failing ignition coil vs starter solenoid - click when turning key, cranks after multiple attempts

Well I just attempted to measure for +12V at the starter per some of the above suggestions...but of course, she's starting up every single time now. The problem seems to go away during "hot" conditions - once it's started once, it'll continue to start. I'm curious about what type of failure a...

Diagnosing failing ignition coil vs starter solenoid - click when turning key, cranks after multiple attempts

Thank you for all the quick replies everyone! A few answers to specific questions: Yes, original starter, Tahoe currently at 141k miles. Pulled both terminals at the battery, visually inspected connections at starter, verified grounds and terminals are all tight. No white crud on any...

Diagnosing failing ignition coil vs starter solenoid - click when turning key, cranks after multiple attempts

My '99 Tahoe has been getting increasingly more hit or miss when it comes to starting. Turn key, single click, but within a few more turns/clicks, it'll turn over as normal. Battery is in good shape, all terminals are tight. Today, it got to the point where it took probably 30+ attempts to...

4 in lift for 2 door Tahoe w/ Autotrac recommendations

Hi all - I've been playing with the idea of lifting my '99 2 door for years, but had difficulties finding a 4" kit for Autotrac models that don't increase the front track width - Rough Country seems to have been the only one but I didn't like the idea of having to decrank for the 4" lift (since...

How to change the visor vanity bulbs?

Well, after a little bit of fenangling, I managed to figure out a way to do this, so I thought I'd share in case anyone else ever needs to disassemble their vanity mirros. When you pop off the clear lenses, you're greeted to the bulb, and a plastic "rivet" that secures the front frame to the...

How to change the visor vanity bulbs?

In my quest to completely convert my interior lights to LEDs, I managed all of them but was defeated by the map light bulbs. They appear to be type 74 bulbs, with an extended plastic sleeve around them, but when I tried to pull one out, all I did was shatter the glass and filament. Before I do...

ECM-1 keeps blowing on key-on when injector harness connected 250 miles after MFI upgrade

Well, pulled the upper intake to discover that the #5 fuel injector wire appeared to be pinched between the bracket and the spider assembly, so with time and vibrations, it eventually rubbed through the insulation and caused the shorted spider. Could have definitely gotten away with replacing...

ECM-1 keeps blowing on key-on when injector harness connected 250 miles after MFI upgrade

That's the plan - it's either #5 or #7 cylinder, so it'll be easy to narrow down the problem one. I also plan to plug in the new spider assembly uninstalled just to make sure the installed spider is 100% the issue.

ECM-1 keeps blowing on key-on when injector harness connected 250 miles after MFI upgrade

Well, a bit of an update...I checked each of the intake-side pins on the fuel injector spider assembly, and it may not show up well in the attached photo, but the highlighted pin is discolored and more of a dull golden brown color compared to the other 15 pins, which are all shiny. Also note the...

ECM-1 keeps blowing on key-on when injector harness connected 250 miles after MFI upgrade

I recently did heads-up refresh of my 1999 Tahoe 5.7 4WD that included replacing the intake manifold gaskets (no leaks, but at 130k wanted to get ahead of the problem) as well as upgrading the CFI to MFI. I've put 250 problem-free miles on it since then. Last night, pulling onto an empty...

Did my install of NBS master and 04 rear disc from silverado on my 95 Tahoe

Count me as another one interested in the 20mm spacers. Been searching high and low for an easy way to get rear discs on my Tahoe, and this seems like the way to go. One thing I'm not clear on - did you have any issues getting the parking brake working with the NBS rear discs?

    96-98 Vortec Alternator Upgrade AD244

Question - have a '99 2-door Tahoe with factory 100A (K60) alternator. Need a new battery and was hoping to upgrade the alternator and wiring while I was at it, and the AD244 seems like the way to go. My question is, most people with 96-98s seem to have to swap out the 4-pin connector from the...
