Wire connection problems?

We are rewiring out 1989 Chevy k1500 truck. We have the orginal wire harness but connecting to a different year. We are not sure which wires connect to which wires. We have connected all the same colors with each other and have eneded up with colors from the new harness that dont match any wires from the 1989 truck harness. Can anybody please help with this? We have a red with with strip, purple with white strip, green with white strip 16 gauge. We also have a solid red 16 gauge wire that is from the newer wire harness and then from the 1989 wire harness we have 2 white with black strip wires, 1 solid yellow, and 1 solid grey and 1 brown with white strip. Where do these wire connect?

Nobody in there normal mind can remember what colors/ stripes go with what. GM may decide one year red with black stripe blows horn. The next year it may be the fog light power.
The best way is to have the OE factory service manuals for your year trucks. One for what you have and one for what your adapting from. The aftermarket manuals,, haynes, clymer, others are to broad, general. You need the 89 truck and the other year. That way you can understand what wire does what do your connecting the correct dots in order of function. In the sticky above search service manuals we have free pdf downloads, there here, we use em. I see that diagram you got , I bet it's hard to follow. Having both years to match will make it sooooo much easier. On fact I think the 89 is available in big , format , like legal size pages for electric diagrams.

One issue I can see is using a harness from a 96+ in a 89 those 2 harnesses are completely different so even though colors match dont mean it's going to the correct corresponding circuit

And the 1 harness will have circuits the other won't and vise versa

What was the issue with the original harness that it couldn't just been repaired

sorry my hubby confirmed that The wire harness and bulkhead is out of like a 92 to a 93 chevy..

The original harness and bulkhead connector was burnt he plastic housing was burnt and melted into the wire metal pins. We think that the previous owner installed something that caused it to burn. or Debris got into the Harness or metal flakes, something caused it to spark but we are not sure exactly what cause the damage. This is also our first time ever building. a vehicle. in doing anything like this. So truthfully we don't know what the hell we're doing and we are self taught using youtube. and talking to other people about how to do things. What we are having a great time together doing it My Hubby and I want. to I. actually go to school after this and after we move from montana to texas
