Removed driver's-side axle shaft seal using a bearing puller, slide hammer, and heat gun. Worked really well.

Damn passenger’s-side axle shaft is being a ****, I must say. I think in the video the guy mentioned a special tool to pop out the axle shaft through the driver's-side opening. I'll need to review the video.

Edit: So think I was doing it wrong. The passenger's-side axle shaft in the video came out easy for him after he removed the five bolts and tapped the housing off. Going to give that a try.

Edit: Damn, I feel stupid. Ah well, got it off after removing the five bolts.

Disassembled the passenger's-side axle shaft and housing.

What I did then is re-bolt the passenger's-side axle shaft housing to the front axle housing in order to have weight on it to remove the passenger's-side axle shaft housing seal and needle bearing.

Passenger's-side axle shaft housing seal removed:

Front axle (differential) housing separated. Differential removed. Will save the rest for next weekend, including removing one more needle bearing from the housing and removing the differential side gears. Then I will need to buy a tool to remove the yoke from the pinion shaft, and start making a shopping list of the seals and bearings that will be replaced.

a tool to remove the yoke from the pinion shaft,
If you have a steering wheel puller or other 2 finger puller, you can clamp the “bar” in the yoke with the straps and use the screw like you would any other puller.

I also bought one of these black and yellow Bering tools and it’s paid for itself on the first bearing.

Good stuff. I do actually have the Yukon kit. I had bought it when I had my Jeep (for the Dana 30 and 44), but I never used it before I sold the Jeep. It was a pretty penny, but I didn't want a less costly tool breaking and then having to buy another one. I will definitely be using that for the pinion shaft bearing. Time to watch some YouTube videos again on using it.

I think I will be picking up another OTC puller for the yoke, and another Kent-Moore tool for the differential side bearings. I thought I had all the tools I would need for the front axle rebuild, but I apparently missed a few after looking at the manual.

It’s definitely a funky tool, I ended up just using the base thing as just tool storage and putting my parts in a vice or just on the bench.

I’d try it on your carrier bearings though, I was able to use mine on a tiny Dana 27 lol

I’m excited for this truck btw… :headbang:

Hmm I didnt even know it would work on them. I'm going to bring out the Yukon and kinda test fit it on the bearings to see what all it can do. I'd be happy if it will remove them all!

Glad you're following the build. Thank you!

Edit: I watched this video again and I can see that the Yukon will probably take care of the side and pinion bearing removals. I'll probably give it a try this coming weekend. Thanks @Orpedcrow
