I got mine from Summit awhile ago, and yes they are just cheap, black abs plastic, but what would you really expect for $30/pair? I have never had issues seeing out of them though. If you have a truck like these were originally designed for, a regular cab without a canopy, you can see everything...

Took me about 10 mins each side. there is a small torx screw that holds the outside cover on where it attaches to the door, located at the very bottom of the cover, remove that and the cover pops off. From there i believe it might depend on the year but the older ones have three bolts behind...
