    The Shock Thread

I posted a few years ago that I used Rancho 5 -way adjustable shocks front and rear on my 1988 RCSB. Since that post I managed to wear out the front shocks. I installed cut suburban big block springs, and the front shocks just couldn’t control the rebound anymore. I stepped up and bought...

    Manual trans option questions

Sorry- it’s a 2wd, regular cab short bed with a factory 5.7/ 350 V8. I’m still running the TBI, factory ‘7747 ecu with a custom tune by me, Tuned Port (TPI) heads, small cam, and shorty headers. I know the T5 has a sketchy stigma with chevys, but on the other hand the fox body mustangs used to...

    Manual trans option questions

Does anyone know what manual transmission is the easiest to put in? My truck is a factory 5 speed, with everything still functional. I’m just looking for a transmission with better gear ratios. My 5lm60/np3500 whatever it is has a really low first gear, with pretty wide spread gearing. I want...

    1988 5.7 5-speed RCSB

I have recently been asked what shocks I used and realized I never wrote the part numbers. All are Rancho RS9000 series 9-way adjustable. They have large bodies, a large shaft, and a dial for adjustments. For the fronts I used RS999337. They are pretty short, so you must have short springs...

    Great information! Thank you

    Steering box info

My steering box has some slop that I'd like to eliminate. It's absolutely in the box. I read that is a Saginaw 800 series, I believe, and that it is a very common steering box. I checked my local junkyard and couldn't find an exact replacement. All the gmt400 series trucks had worn out boxes. I...

    Lowered suspension advice

A 4/6 drop using spindles of any brand, a flip kit of any brand (or home made-easy) and new dropped front springs or even cut front springs will ride damn near exactly like stock. Shock quality will change the ride quality the most. No matter what you do, brand new parts will likely make the...

    WinALDL or Tunerpro help

Have you hooked up a wide band 02 sensor to confirm that you are rich when the ECM thinks you are?? It sounds like maybe you aren't rich, but the ECM pulls fuel and it runs rough until it adds fuel and runs better. Just because a new sensor says it's rich doesn't mean it is rich... I would think...

What brand fuel pump to buy

Walbro 255 or equivalent. Ive used real Walbros, likely knock off Walbros, and even the Ebay "Kemso 340lph" orange pumps- all successfully with a stock engine, stock TBI. I read the regulator is efficient enough to handle a bigger pump, and apparently it is!

    Fuel millage

1988 RCSB, 350/ 5-speed and 3.08's. Rear tires are 275-30-20's. I got 19mpg at the highest from central Florida to Houston Texas, the worst was like 17mpg, all highway. Stock engine, K&N in the stock filter housing, stock exhaust manifolds with a modified factory Y-pipe that exits to 3", no cat...

"IMHO tuning a "stock" engine will always give you better performance and MPG. Modified engines require it." I totally agree

    WinALDL or Tunerpro help

Is this engine stock or modified? If its stock there should be no need to modify your chip or bin file to run well. The screenshot you provided is a good start, but its a snapshot. Seeing a log would be more helpful. Block Learn Mulitplier (BLM's) are 101, which is rich. That coincides with...
