Just as a follow-up in case anyone else has the same problem, I had to take it to my mechanic. He had to torch it out, because he didn't have small enough powerful snips that could cut through the lower latch assembly that sticks up into the inside of the 3rd door. Just as everyone had...

I've tried pushing in on the door with varying pressure and at different points/angles with no luck. A few 1500s I test drove had the same issue and a push would allow us to open the door. One owner told us that all 3rd doors required this push to disengage.
