I have a 98 with a 406 that I built with efi on a 0411 ecm. If I burnout without touching the breaks it shifts to second and third. If I drag the breaks it won’t shift out of first. I had a pro do the initial tune but want to do the fine tuning myself. Does anyone know if this is a setting I can...
Alright guys. I FINALLY heard back from Black Bear (they don’t help over the phone, you have to wait for them to reply to email). He said it was probably an issue with telling the scanner it was a 98 truck and the ECM being a 2002. So I told the scanner it was a 2002 Chevy Express van 5.7 and...
Ok. That makes sense. So It makes sense that the sync is not reading since the “CKP system variation is not learned”? Narrowing down which is a symptom of which is my first problem.
I plugged the old egr valve into the harness and that code went away but didn’t help the relearn. That is now the only code. I hate to throw parts at it but there is some play in the gear and some uneven wear on the distributor gear so I’m going to order a new one.
So not much help from Black Bear over the phone. Have to wait for the tuner to reply to email apparently. The codes are P1336 and P0405. Anyone know if the P0405 EGR code could/would prevent the relearn process?
It is a vortec truck, the timing is still set by the distributor position as I...
I’m sure it was a Delco sensor. When it was bad the engine would only start then immediately die, right now it runs and drives. Thanks for the suggestion but I’m not going to swap the wiring back to the black box connectors.
The battery was disconnected the whole time. I tend to not pay much attention the the P codes, I’ll post them tomorrow afternoon. Not heading back out to the shop tonight.
It is throwing the learn required code. That nd the egr are the only ones currently. There is a relearn for the 96+ trucks. I did it last year when the sensor puked and I replaced it. It worked fine then with the same scanner but original engine and pcm.
I have a Black Bear tune and I know I should ask them but hoping to get some direction before Monday. The truck runs well but I can’t get the CKP relearn to wor on my Snap On Verus or my friends never Snap On scanner. Both give a “Request Out Of Range” error. Any ideas? Neither of us have seen...
I’m finally ready to install my 406 in my 98. Has anyone tried successfully to install an engine in a GMT400 with long tube headers already bolted on? Trans is slid back so I can drop onto the mounts.
