When putting the cut outs on, mark your pipe with white shoe polish and go down the road at wot for a little ways. Where ever that shoe Polish doesn't burn off stick the cut outs there. You have a little wiggle room to play with if you do this with a stock muffler. The paint would burn at a different area without a muffler but it won't be much different. The muffler restricting the air flow would cause the different place for the polish to burn off. I've also heard a paint marker works as well. If you plan on changing manifold, cat, etc I d wait until all of that was done to your liking before the paint thing. Installing cut outs would be at the bottom of the to do list.
With no cats, i believe paint would burn off my chrome tips, they get incredibly hot. They sizzle when they get dipped in water.
I never thought the tips would get that hot after cutting the cats off. If you have been running it a while, you won't make the mistake of touching them but once.
lol.
