Sounds about right based on what I know. Mine came with 3 different cartridges and 5 different adapters for Ford, Chrysler and GM. Conveniently, it also came with a 92 manual which covers my specific vehicle, plus a Mitchell, quixk fix diagnostics guide book.

I have to change the cartridge, plug in, enter my vehicle info, then navigate the menus to display the data. Hoping to have some time today to fiddle around with it.

Scanner is live! (After some electrical gremlins at the interior 12V plug...).

Couldn't start truck as it's too late but here's some snap shots of it at key on, engine off (KOEO).

Quietly chuckling to myself how easy that was once I got this dinosaur piece of technology to work!

So yeah, CTS is wonky, it sure ain't -40. New one arrived today, I'll install tomorrow.

Interesting, the TPS looks ok on the scanner. Just goes to show how much more accurate this is. My DVM showed very different at the plug.

Last pic shows commanded IAC, why on earth would it be 140, with KOEO? What does this even mean? What would be considered normal at idle?

I'll start the truck tomorrow & post up some more data snap shots.

Cheers

Connect a scan tool, look at the data stream. Verify ALL the sensors, especially coolant temp, TPS, and MAP.
You'll be proud. Scanner snap shots above. More to come.

Ohh yeah, and you've converted me to using a scanner from now on.

ANY scan tool--including old/obsolete units--is better than NO scan tool, assuming you have the appropriate software and connector(s) for the vehicle.

My old MTG2500 (and the similar MT2500) also scrolled four lines of text at a time, like your MPSI. Almost prehistoric. Like your MPSI, the MT2500 has no graphing capability. The MTG2500 could graph any two parameters, using a very crude display. Newer scan tools are substantially better in this regard.

Thanks for posting the photos. See how easy it is to spot the REAL problem, instead of interrogating each individual sensor with a multimeter and back-probes?

Do keep in mind that the -40 CTS signal could be a failed wire harness as easily as it could be a failed sensor. Might be worthwhile to plug the new sensor into the wire harness before you remove the old sensor, and open the cooling system. If the MPSI shows ambient temp, swap sensors. If it's still showing -40, you've got problems somewhere else--wire harness, or (VERY rare) the computer itself.

Progress made...

New CTS sensor is in. Accurately reflects ambient temp. It warmed up as the engine warmed up.

I've got to run down & grab some more gas before I run the truck any longer. Didn't quite get up to operating temp.

Truck idles ALOT better. In both P/N and in gear. Still getting Code 15 so got to go back through the diagnostics chart. Will tonight once the engine is cooled off.

Crank, no start when hot problem has gone away which is a win.

Next up, shake down road test!

I also ran through the EGR code 32 diagnostics chart. I landed on Step 6 - no vacuum drop.

Seems odd, I redid the intake gaskets (complete with extreme cleaning) 4 years ago (2019), and <5,000kms since. I highly doubt the EGR passages in the intake manifold being blocked again.

So, what, the spring in the EGR Valve is bad? Not sure what to think of this all...

I replaced the valve at the same time in 2019 with a new Delphi one, part #: EG10099.

@someotherguy - any clues?

Code 32 has been cleared but will most likely show again the first curise down he highway I take.
