Done. Found enough CD players at wrecking yard to finally have one work. I am getting VERY nice sound from the truck's CD player now. Keeping a spare or two for future. Most common problem I found is that one will accept the CD, sit, then display, "Err." Many of you have seen that. At least one you tube shows a fellow opening up the case and cleaning around the laser. Seems to fix that problem..........sometimes. I've been into one of these and getting access to that laser still escapes me. Erratic, "eject," button seems to be another problematic common problem. That plastic button on case front isn't the switch, it merely presses on a circuit board mounted sub-miniature push button. I have a bad CB mounted button on an otherwise seemingly good player but finding a replacement sub-miniature button has so far eluded me. PS: the main radio with the cassette player has variations. I picked up a spare and the antenna jack is in a little higher location in the radio's back, and will not accept my antenna plug. Model numbers are a little different too, although everything else on the unit appears identical. To run factory audio on these appears best accomplished by having a pickup load of spare units..........................

The one that won't take your antenna plug, is it simply the other common size? GM used a smaller antenna plug in many applications, requiring an adapter.

Glad you have the CD player working. I occasionally find my eject button doesn't work either but I just have to make sure i push the button in the middle and squarely. Then it works. Yes, I also have 3 spares on the shelf. ha ha.
The earlier radios, not sure exactly which years but I think 95 and 96) have a separate FM PCB board and therefore a difference location for the antenna input. When I did my CDP install, I was also considering adding a 3.5 mm AUX jack but never bothered.
This video was useful for that;

That is helpful, thank you. With audio up and running, I'm leaving that project. There were a few burned out faceplate bulbs I wanted to replace, but after I got everything working I'm hesitant to open anything up again. Besides, it's now cold in the building where I have to work and I'm worn out on audio. Ha. Moving now to replacing bulbs in instrument panel.

This was the #1 reason for replacing CD players when I was a tech. Kids shoving crap into the CD slot.
Y'all remember that commercial, several years ago,with the baby putting oatmeal in the VCR? I don't remember what it was actually for, but I know anybody doing appliance or electronic repair has to hate it.....

Does anyone know if the dashboard harness has the connectors for the single disc CD player in it, even if the truck doesn't have the unit? Crew cab has the head unit with the cassette, but no disc player. That may need to change before road trips, but I don't want to get into the dash just to look for a plug. The dash is really nice in this truck and I don't want to mess it up!
