No one has followed up on my question asking if anyone was curious about additional information on that $3.5 Million '67. However, I'll add it anyway. ;)

Many years ago, original buyers of Corvettes received a magazine in the mail named Corvette News, right from General Motors. This story tells a very unusual tale...

This is the same car you watched the Barrett-Jackson video of. VIN # 194377S116945, one of only 20 L88 Corvettes built in 1967.

Yes, I would love to have a pace car. Of course, the first thing I would do is, get some HP, for that thing. Cam, and heads, 383 swap, or maybe even a LS swap, IDK. Definitely a OD trans, with some 373s or 410-411 gears.

From the 1969 Corvette showroom brochure. More later, if interested...

The above ZL1 engine is not shown in the engine choice page above it. Intended for racing only. Only two came out of the factory, but there are plenty of, um, shall we call them "clones"?

Here's what the all-aluminum (yes, the block too) ZL1 427 looks like.

Did you know there were three different hoods for 1969 Corvettes, depending on engine ordered? Also, there were three different hoods for '67 Corvettes too...not two...three.

1969 Corvette ZL1 designed and driven by Zora Arkus-Duntov. If that name is unfamiliar to you, think of him as the Father of the Corvette.

The fender flares were provided, by the factory, with both the 1968-69 L88 and the 1969 ZL1. They were not installed at the factory, but were shipped with the car. Most people did not have them installed. Too bad.

If the Corvette ZL1 is new to you, perhaps you remember hearing about the 1969 Camaro ZL1. They built 69 of those, but only two Corvettes.

Before you read the chart, let's pause for a moment to remember that this car was built 53 years ago. The ZL1 option added $4,718.35 to the base coupe price of $4,781.00
In other words, it DOUBLED the price of the car. And, don't forget that this car was not designed to be a 1/4 mile warrior. It was designed to be a road track racer...

One more thing. If you've never heard a L88 or a ZL1 at idle, though open exhaust, you've missed out in life. ;)
